Check this comic out!

Just wanted to post a link to a preview of a comic that I really enjoy called Athena Voltaire. It's a good, old-fashioned, pulpy throwback to the adventure serials of the 1930s and '40s starring a tough-as-nails aviatrix who pits her skills against various threats, including Nazis, vampires and gill men. (Okay, the last one isn't true. That was just for Gabe.) I met artist/co-creator Steve Bryant at the 2003 WizardWorld Chicago convention (the first I attended) and found him to be an incredibly nice guy. Since it was still just a web comic at the time, I was unable to really check it out until after the convention was over, but I decided I enjoyed the concept enough to purchase a couple prints (which Steve was nice enough to sign). (Both images can be seen here, the left and center pictures.)

Creators Steve Bryant and Paul Daly launched the print version of the series back in February at Speakeasy Comics. The company folded within the same month, but they finally found a new home for their heroine at Ape Entertainment. The following preview is the entire contents of the first issue released by Speakeasy. The first issue published by Ape will be 48 pages consisting of what would have been issues one and two of Speakeasy's version.

That comic is so sweet...gotta love the pulp. Besides...who doesn't love a good Nazi-killing adventure?
